Why do people hate high school musical so much!?
OK, so you love it and you’re entitled to, but these people are asking you (if a little rudely) to have a really good look at it. High School Musical ticks every box for feelgood, and is structured in a totally formulaic way to give you that warm fuzzy feeling. You need to be able to tell when the film’s creative team are pulling your heartstrings in an artificial way, or whether the film gets a deeper response from you because of the quality of the writing, acting and direction. Can you compare it to other films and musicals though and still say it’s a great piece of musical cinema? Time to stop thinking about your “favourite film” and to start assessing what you think is the “best film”. Don’t stop enjoying HSM though – it’s well put together and the underlying message is a good one.
