Why do people get tested for vestibular disorders?

0

The basic premise for vestibular testing is to assist the physician in determining the underlying disease or other cause(s) of dizziness or other symptoms and, then, to direct the patient for appropriate management of the condition. The three main goals of balance function testing are (1) localization of a possible site of lesion, (2) assessment of a patient’s functional ability to integrate his/her sensory systems which is necessary to achieve proper balance and stability, and (3) the evaluation of the degree of physiologic and functional vestibular compensation which the patient has achieved if a dysfunction of the vestibular system exists.
