Why do people generalise about tattoos so much?
I categorize hatred of tattoos into two areas: how tattoos used to be and what they remain to be. When I say ‘used to be’ I note the fact that tattoos used to be the domain of criminals, military folk, and other people on the fringe of society. Even as tattoos are substantially more universal now, the association with elements of society that decent people wouldn’t want to be around continues to linger. Elderly or more old fashioned people might look at you with the same sort of contempt they would on a hard-as-nails biker, even if your tattoo is a fairy with the words ‘love thy neighbor.’ Fortunately, this attitude is changing as tattoos become more universal.
