Why do people focus so much on left-wing/right-wing bias in news media?
You have missed the point of commercial media outlets in the U.S. Especially the so-called TV news outlets. Their job is to attract a crowd. Hopefully a crowd with a majority of females 18-35 years of age who constitute the key demographic group. Then they can sell them stuff. It’s not news. It’s what falls between the feminine hygiene and beauty products ads. As for “tabloid journalism” the irony is that the first newspaper of that type in New York City, complete with lurid headlines and stories, was the New York World after it was purchased by a publisher from Saint Louis. Today’s “professional journalists” get dressed in their best clothing to walk down the aisle of the auditorium at the Columbia University School of Journalism once a year to pick up a prestigious award named for that Saint Louis publisher: Joseph Pulitzer!
