an old roman catholic tradition about not eating meat on friday,however fish was deemed to be ok to eat on the friday, also deep sea fishermen are superstitious about leaving port/harbour on a friday so leave port on thursday or saturday meaning fish holds are usually needing to be emptied by the following thurs/friday, making friday about the best day to get the freshest fish.
