Why do people drive in parkways and park in driveways?

It really should be the opposite but almost everything in the English language is mixed up any way so it doesn’t make a big difference. But since we’re used to parking in the driveway and driving in the parkway we all be weirded out if we had to go park in our parways in front of our houses.
