Why do people dislike managers so much (e.g., in healthcare and education)?

Some ideas, mostly from a psychological point of view. Use them as inspiration to do research about what you find interesting. Generally there are reasons that have to do with the managers behavior, but also with their own uncertainties * cause people have difficulty understanding the perspective of the manager * cause they feel the manager is in control, and dislike that * cause they project their uncertainties on them * cause the managers decisions never satisfy all colleagues and people generally remember the negative decisions 5 times better * specific for education: often the group is loosely connected, cause people have their own classrooms. This makes the managers very central and thus powerful in the organization. * for healthcare: the doctors are very powerful in the Dutch system, which makes the position of the manager difficult. It is hard to bargain about decisions that may save lives, but can cost much money.
