People dislike attorneys because they fail to realize that attorneys are like prostitutes…they are there to serve their clients’ interests in exchange for money. If no one wanted to sue anyone else, there would be no need for civil litigation attorneys. If no one ever committed a crime, all of the prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys would be begging for spare change at street corners (in their Armani suits and tasseled loafers….;-D…) Do attorneys take advantage of and manipulate the system in which they function? Sure they do! Do you personally take advantage of every tax break you can to minimize what you pay? Sure you do! But we, the citizenry, determine what the system is. If it’s important enough for us to change it, we will. There are other systems that could be implemented. In Saddam-era Iraq, criminal prosecutions were largely a matter of arresting someone and torturing that person until a confession was obtained. No need for lawyers. OTOH, we can envision a publicl
