Why do people develop a poor body image or eating disorders?
Our society focuses on body image and encourages people to risk their health to achieve “the look” they see in magazines, tv and movies. Most models and actors/actresses fit a small and thin body type that most of us could never reach. Dieting, binging and purging may help some people deal with painful emotions and feel as if they are in control of their lives. Unfortunately this can hurt your physical health and self esteem. Research shows that there might be a genetic link as eating disorders often run in the family.
