Why Do People Cheat On Their Partners?
Usually, it’s a combination of boredom and a natural attraction to other people. If you’re with someone for a long time, it is inevitable that you will get to know each other very intimately. It’s not very exciting when you know every breath, every sound, every move someone’s about to make- it bores you out of the most exciting thing we can do as people (sex.) The other reason is that we’re pretty much genetically coded to find different things appealing. It’s a deep-seated part of our DNA that tells us to constantly look for new partners and procreate with them to increase genetic diversity. We are hard-coded to ensure the survival of our species by picking up as many unique traits as possible from many partners. People convince themselves of everlasting love, fairy tale marriage, and even the concept of “the one” from a young age as part of our cultural zeitgeist.
