Why do people change their name by Deed Poll?
There are many reasons for change, such as:- I – don’t like the name I was given at birth -prefer an alternative spelling -like my forenames but would prefer them in a different order -wish to revert to my maiden name before my divorce from my husband is finalised and I receive my decree absolute -have re-married and want to change my child’s surname to that of my new husband -want to formally adopt my maiden name as my middle name after I am married -want to use my wife’s maiden name as a middle name for myself -am in a same sex relationship and both of us want to share a common name whilst not wanting a formal Civil Partnership -am of foreign extraction and my name is difficult for almost everyone I meet to pronounce so I would like to anglicise it -am converting to another religious faith and want to take a name more suited to my changed circumstances -have changed my gender and want to use a suitably representative forename …. the list is endless.
