Why do people believe in urban legends.?
Like most legends they have a basis in fact however small and they are interesting as well. E.g., the alligators in the NY sewers; people did buy live baby gators as souvenirs at one time in FL then took them home and when they got inconvenient or too large they flushed them down the toilets and they found the sewers a perfect spot to breed. Sounds plausible even to me now but I know it’s just a legend based on some facts. OTOH, I find Snopes to be snotty and not always truthful; they never admit when they’re wrong nor do they ever admit to something even when they know it is the truth, their sole goal is proving anything and everything wrong so they make themselves look SO intelligent.
