Why do people automatically assume that a sex offender is a child molester?
You are absolutely right. People don’t seem to realize how easy it is for someone to be labeled a sex offender. Did you know that if a little boy kisses a little girl and the girl’s parents decide to “teach him a lesson”, they can (and have) file assault charges on him. If convicted, the boy has to register as a sex offender his entire life. I saw a story about a man who, when he was 18 was caught having sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. They had been dating for 3 years before the incident. Her father charged him with statutory rape. This man was now in his 50’s and still has to register as a sex offender. By the way, he and that girlfriend are still married after more than 30 years. There should be degrees, like with murder, assault, etc. Mooning someone has the same consequences as raping a child. Both “crimes” require the perpetrators to register as sex offenders for life. Most sexual crimes are not perpetrated against children – those are just the most horrific. People really sh
