Why do pentecostal Christians hold up their hand whilst worshipping?
There is a scriptural basis for doing it. 1 Timothy 2:8 “Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.” As for tongues, that is somewhat controversial. There is a biblical basis for this as well. There is a possibility of self edification and an interpreter with the knowledge of what is being said should be present. This is to be a known language to edify the power and glory of God through the Spirit. “Prayer language”, which is supposedly the groanings of the Holy Spirit, should be a private matter between the individual and God, and are not necessarily audible. These are not always in agreement with what some Pentecostals believe. Some also believe that if you do not speak in tongues it is a sign that you are not filled with the Holy Spirit. That simply is not true, as many Spirit filled Christians who do not have the “gift” of tongues will attest. As for what to do during the service, just do what you feel comfortable doing. I’
