Why do Pegoretti not use carbon fibre?
Currently we do not make anything using this material. There are many reason why. Firstly we are not interested in using a prefabricated prepackaged product that is generally made only to look good. We like to think that what we produce, we design, modify and test and re-do until we are satisfied. Secondly we do not have the experience or the understanding of this material sufficiently to use on a frame and we also lack the technical know how. Thirdly we do not think it very professional to join a drop out with one tube or a monostay by a 6mm bolt and we guarantee that you will lose rear triangle rigidity. Fourthly we find “politically” little sense in throwing in a product that just comes along, (as happens in the overwhelming majority of cases), is constructed abroad and finally we do not feel it is necessary. Because of such a hybrid of aluminium/carbon, steel/carbon you are not able to see the real improvement in respect of a frame constructed from a more traditional material.
