Why do peace studies?

Hunter: War and peace are the most urgent issues debated in politics. There is no sustainable development without a peace element. A lot of our students come from conflict areas, so it’s a very real issue for them. Fowler: I began the MA course in combination with a law degree. However, I now want to complete a PhD instead of going back to law school. I think most undergraduates today will find it difficult to advance very far in their careers with just a bachelor’s degree. For me, obtaining an MA in peace and conflict studies is just one step towards achieving a rewarding career in peace research and foreign policy advising. Tabatabai: It was the fact that the course combined development studies and security studies. The interesting combination of two topics, and the opportunity to get to know the connection between them was what convinced me to go for this programme. What are the job prospects? Hunter: There is quite a lot of work around in development agencies for peace and conflict
