Why do parents/family members have to pay to attend Orientation?

The cost for students to attend Orientation is covered by the fees they have already paid. The cost for parents/family members to attend is not covered by these fees. Instead of students paying for guests who are not coming, parents/guests only have to pay if they attend Orientation. The fee covers program costs (the printed materials each parent/family member will get upon checking-in at Orientation; a colorful parent guide to UVM/wall-calendar; a parting gift), lunch and dinner on the first day of Orientation, and a reception in the evening of the first day. Some parents have said they were surprised to see the fee, but after attending Orientation said “It was worth every penny!” We hope you’ll think so, too.
