Why do older sisters always treat their younger brothers like kids?
I’m an older sister, and I totally do this. My brother is bigger than me and acts a lot tougher, and I still do this, and get away with it. Why? I have no idea. I think the main thing is birth order, not gender– meaning the older sibling will always treat the younger sibling like the ‘baby’ of the family. It’s because we grow up with the expectation that we have to be mature and look out for our younger sibling(s) while being good role models and then we also have to make sure we’re “better” and not let the younger sibling overachieve. An older brother might not be as condescending because he can associate with you, being the same gender, but because she’s female and associates with you less, it probably feels even stronger. Being female, depending on her personality, she may also want to be “better” than you because you’re male. Also, going sterile at 20 is a pretty bad decision.
