Why do officers patrol neighborhoods doing license checks?

There is an Officer checking all the dogs in my neighborhood for Dog Licenses. Don’t you have anything better to do? Is it legal for you officer to ask me if I have a Dog license? My dog has a license, why did I get a notice on my door. Door to door license checks are one of the many responsibilities of Animal Service Officers. They have a responsibility to ensure that every dog in Davis County is currently licensed and vaccinated against Rabies. Often officers will check every house on a street or in a neighborhood. If the caller doesn’t have a dog, they can disregard the notice. Door to door licensing is a “proactive” part of our Animal Services program, and it is legal for officers to request licensing information from dog owners. If the officer could not see a license on your dog, without having access to our computer, there is no way for him to know if you have a license or not. Take their license information, and forward that to the officer.
