Why do my blue morning glories turn pink for one day after a cool night?
More basic (alkaline) conditions will produce a more vibrant blue shade, while more acidic conditions cause the flower to become more purple or red/pink. This can happen naturally within the plant itself based on natural shifts of sodium and potassium throughout the plant. FYI: The different colors reflect different phytochemicals (antioxidants) within the plant! You are not alone, either- check this out (from Flickr.com): morning glory color shift Yesterday morning I took photos of the blue morning glories. Later, in the afternoon when I left to go walk downtown, I noticed that all of the blue morning glories turned purple in just a few short hours. These are the same morning glory pair photographed about six hours apart. This photo has notes. Move your mouse over the photo to see them. Sources: http://www.flickr.
