Why do Muslim women wearing face-veils often accuse the majority of UK / USA of ignorance?
I’ve only seen a handful of Muslim women wearing a face veil/niqab in the US, and I have lived in places with a large Muslim population. I don’t know how common it is in the UK, but most Muslim women in the US don’t even wear the standard hijab, let alone a face veil. I get the impression that American Muslims are more liberal than UK/European Muslims. British Muslims in particular seem to be of a fundamentalist persuasion. Clothing that covers the face is highly looked down upon in Western cultures. People view those who cover their faces as malignant, trying to hide something… associated with robbers, KKK, executioners, etc. It is unreasonable to immigrate to a Western country, wear clothing like this and expect people to not be “ignorant” or “misunderstanding”. It is akin to an Englishman going to Saudi Arabia and trying to open a chain of pubs.
