Why do movie studios sometimes include multiple screen-aspect versions of a movie on a single DVD disc?
The short answer is, because they can. Double-sided discs and dual-layer discs offer enough storage capacity to include a version formatted for a standard TV, as well as a “letterbox” or other widescreen version. Widescreen versions are preferred by many film buffs and videophiles because they keep the director’s original vision intact.
