Why do mostly private colleges have fashion majors while public colleges barely do?

I’m not sure why, or if that is or isn’t true. Maybe because many fashion programs are found at art schools, and most art schools are private? But there are some really good, even elite level fashion programs at public schools: – Fashion Institute of Technology (which is part of the State University of New York, and an elite level fashion school. This school is inexpensive even for out of state students. A huge steal, IMO.) – Kent State University (another elite level program, ranking below FIT and Parsons, but still quite strong.) – Mass Art (a public art school, and a very strong art school) – Iowa State U – U North Texas – Virginia Commonwealth U (another very strong art program) – Montclair State U – SUNY Buffalo – North Dakota State U – Texas Tech U – U Delaware It could be at others as well, but these are the ones I know have it. All are public, and some – those I noted – have great programs.
