Why do most Christians not celebrate Passover?
Dear Marcus, I agree with you. It is a shame that Christians do not celebrate Passover, or the other Jewish holidays (such as Pentecost, Rosh Hashanah, and Purim). The Gospels illustrate that the first Holy Communion was a Passover celebration (or Seder), which was a celebration of God’s deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. However, since the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus represented a new act of deliverance for all humanity, it took on more importance in the early Christian church and the celebration of Passover fell by the wayside. So, in a way, Holy Communion replaced Passover.
