The Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN) asked more than 2,600 military spouses why they wanted a job. The results may surprise you. “I expected money to be the top response, but it only ranked third,” explained Deb Kloeppel, president and CEO of the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN), a non-profit program dedicated to providing career opportunities and job portability for military spouses. “The number one reason was ‘self-esteem,’ and ‘identity’ ranked number two. Based on this information, I believe underemployment – taking a job for which you are overqualified and probably underpaid – gets a bad rap. Being in a job that isn’t the perfect fit offers some great opportunities. It gives you the flexibility to make mistakes as you learn new skills.
