Why do men grow beards, but not women?
Women have hair all over their faces. It is usually fine and light-coloured. In women with sallow skin, such as those from Mediterranean countries, this hair is often dark and more visible. Sometimes due to hormonal reasons and many other factors, lighter skinned women also have visible (from a distance) facial hair. There is a whole industry devoted to making women feel bad about it and paying large amounts and suffering pain to remove it. Some women ‘do’ grow beards. They choose not to put themselves through the unnecessary pain of waxing or electrolysis or tweezing and appear as (shock) nature intended them to. If that is too much for people to accept, then it is not the beard-growing women who have a problem.
