Why do martial arts people use unusual weapons and techniques?

Good point. Nunchaku were originally a rice flail OR a horse bridle and when the Japanese conquered Okinawa they would not allow anyone to carry weapons other than the Samarai, so people learned to fight with farm implements. The others you’ve names were traditional weapons of Ninjas and only a small part of Japan even used these – though in America one would assume they were and still are all over Japan! I guess people still use those things for tradition, I would rather train in a martial art like Hapkido or carry a shotgun! Some martial arts – such as Hapkido, practice disarms of clubs, knives and guns – but not exotic weapons and only train with readily available materials such as walking canes, knife, club and belts/rope. Krav Maga, Kali, Silat, Systema, Jeet Kune Do also would not have the “traditional” weapons such as those you have listed and if you used weapons they would be knife or club.
