Why do many people think muscle can turn into fat?

It’s definitely a common misconception that muscle turns into fat. I think that it’s partly due to the fact that if you become less active and you don’t make any dietary changes, your body weight increases and your appearance also changes (you develop a softer look) and people naturally assume that it’s down to the muscle turning into fat, not that they have lost muscle tone and gained a layer of body fat over those muscles. It’s something I come across on a daily basis in my job as a Personal Trainer and Class Instructor.
