Why do many people call White tigers Siberian tigers when they are Bengal tigers that had a genetic mutation?
A. The explanation is nothing to do with cats, this time. It’s to do with people. Siberian tigers have a paler coat than Bengals, and this probably fuels the idea that they are “white tigers”. Humans have a habit of filling in an answer they think is right when they’re not really sure – I call it the “next best answer situation” – and once they’ve found that answer the powerful urge to never lose face in front of ones’ peers takes over and the person BELIEVES the answer to be right.
