Why do lottery playslips for California Super Lotto only issue numbers in sequential order?
First of all, the order in which the numbers are drawn doesn’t matter. If you want to pay the numbers 1, 19, 23, 31, 44 and Mega Ball 20, just fill the first five numbers and then 20 in the Mega Ball (MB) area. If the winning numbers are 44, 23, 1, 19, 31 MB 20, you’ll win the Jackpot because you have guessed correctly all the winning numbers. So, since the order is immaterial, the most logical way to list numbers is in sequential order. When people play their birthdays, they play whatever number is allowed by the particular lottery. SuperLotto plus aloows upto 47 while Mega Millions allow upto 56. For example, if someone is born on 12/25/1965, he/she may play the numbers 12, 25, 19 but not 65. Then, since two more numbers and a MB are required, the person may wish to play his/her age, that is, 43. Now, the 5th number and the MB have to be guessed or use the spouse’s birthday to complete the numbers.
