Why do Lexia programs have “staggered components”? Do I have to do that or can I take a semester of regular classes instead?
The system of staggered courses is an integral part of the Lexia program. On semester programs, the four core courses last for varying lengths of time, and therefore the number of hours that you spend in class each week will vary. The program begins with intensive language and the Civilization Seminar, and both of those courses end in week 10. Meanwhile, in week 5, the Research Methods Seminar begins and lasts five weeks. Finally, the Field Research Project and optional internship begin in week 8 and last until the end of the program. So the number of hours that you ll spend in class will vary from week to week. During the last five weeks, your regular classes will stop. You ll then be in the Field Research Project Intensive Period, allowing you to focus exclusively on your independent research (and optional internship). Of course you won t be on your own entirely; you ll meet frequently during this period with your advisors.
