Why do kids write in that atrocious text language ?
Yes, it gets on my nerves too. I think they got into the habit of doing it on the net through using messenger services. My son used to msn a lot and he and his friends always wrote that way on msn. I try to look at it the same way as I do talking. It’s a kind of slang. I taught my son from an early age that he can talk the way he wants with his friends, but in the house he had to to talk properly because it would help him when he was older if he knew how to speak to people from all walks of life. With text speak, he did it all the time on msn, but when he emails or writes letters, or did school work, he used normal words. As is often the case, it’s down to parents to teach their kids that it’s ok to write to their friends this way but the wider world requires proper English to be used.
