Why do Jews and Muslims not eat pork?
They are unclean animals that eat garbage. Also in Jewish history, there is a story where the ancient gentiles let wild boars run rampant through the Jewish Temple and let them destroy everything. That is another big reason why Jewish people don’t eat pigs because that incident was so disgraceful.
Muslim rules about which food to eat stems, undeniably, from Jewish law. This is far too complicated to go into now but the eating of pork is forbidden because animals to eat fall under four categories: land animals, birds, insects, and aquatic animals. Land animals, to be kosher, must have cloven hooves and chew their cud. Thus, cows and giraffes are kosher, but pigs and tigers are not. To fit the requirements, birds must not be birds of prey or scavengers; chickens are fine, vultures are not. The only kosher insects are grasshoppers and locusts. Aquatic animals must have fins and scales. This may not seem to have any effect, but it rules out all shellfish, whales, dolphins, seals, and certain types of shark and other fish with rough skin instead of scales. Vegetables, milk, and eggs are automatically kosher.
In the Old Testament, book of Leviticus, there are a large number of laws that the ancient Hebrews followed. Many of these have to do with dietary restrictions. The prohibition against eating pork comes from here. It is a fact that undercooked pork can contain parasites that are harmful to humans. For a nomadic people with an irregular food supply, it was important to know what to avoid. Muslims follow many of the same laws, since they use the same books as part of their religious tradition.
