Why do insurance companies favor outpatient care?
Insurance companies would rather have patients recover at home because it is less expensive than paying for a room for a day or two following a procedure. They have relented somewhat for women giving birth (was one day for many), but I wish they would let people with knee surgery and hernia repairs stay longer, so their pain could be managed better.
