Why do insects only eat dead bodies?
There are incidences reported of eggs being laid in wounds as well as other parts of the human body. There is also the fact that eating alive or dead things is a preference that the insect or bug has learned benefits it the most. Think of it…if you had to hunt and scavenge for food, wouldn’t it be easier to just eat something that is already dead, or to have to kill it yourself and then eat it? Thus, sometimes it is more beneficial for “weaker” insects to decide to eat on the dead rather than risk their life fighting and killing another living organism.
