Why do individuals need to wear a swimsuit if they don’t get wet during the test?
The surface area of clothing and hair will significantly change the body volume measurement. To minimize this effect, individuals are asked to wear a form-fitting Speedo® or other Lycra®/spandex-type swimsuit and swim cap during the test. Can an individual be measured if they don’t have a swimsuit? Yes. Individuals can also wear single-layer compression shorts and, if female, a jog bra without padding or wires.
