Why do I sometimes get extremely large file sizes when exporting PDF files with MultiPage 1?

When using MultiPage 1, your multiple page PDF files are large due to the use of placed images in Adobe Illustrator. (You cannot prevent this problem by unchecking “Link” when placing your images.) Also, if you have checked Preserve Illustrator editing capabilities in the Multiple Page PDF export dialog box, you will increase the size of your PDF file. The first step in reducing file size is to choose “Smallest File Size” in the Adobe Save PDF window. You can further reduce the file size by adjusting the Compression – Downsampling settings in the Save PDF window. For web or on-screen viewing, you may want to downsample images to 72 ppi for maximum compression. For complete details on compression settings, please refer to the Illustrator Help section titled “Compression and downsampling options for PDF.
