Why do I need to use the individual search fields rather than simply use the keyword function?

The keyword search is not sufficiently specific. Also, once you have obtained the results of your search you will not be able to further modify them to narrow your search. In order to specify your search (build a query) you would need to enter information in one or several search fields.
