Why do I need to take a nonstress test?
If your baby is showing signs of decreased movement, if the pregnancy is postterm or there are signs of intrauterine growth retardation your doctor will want to confirm the baby’s wellbeing. Other signs your doctor will want to monitor include toxemia, maternal diabetes mellitus, oligohydramnios, a high AFP result in a fetus with no signs of a neural tube defect or a preterm rupture of the membranes during bedrest.
