Why do I need to fill in the Ethics proforma?
It is good research practice to submit any research to be conducted on humans to independent ethical review. Indeed, the British Psychological Society states that all research conducted on humans must receive independent ethical review. Also, funding agencies such as the ESRC require all human research within an institution to have received ethical review. Failure to adhere to these practices may result in courses no longer being accredited by the BPS or withdrawal of funding for projects from research councils. Therefore the School of Psychology has decided that all research carried out by its staff or students requires ethical approval.
