Why do I need a Windows Live ID account to sign in to the DreamSpark site?
DreamSpark is a program for students only. So, we need to make sure you are, indeed, a student at an accredited School. The Windows Live ID sign-in process allows you to get your student status verified at the start and then bypass the verification step for future visits to the DreamSpark site. All students will keep their eligibility for the DreamSpark site for 12 months and will have the option to renew after 12 months. Essentially, Live ID will act as the account mechanism for you (as you) to come back to DreamSpark information and additional tools.

By student, we mean someone enrolled in an institution of higher education, since this is currently available to only higher-ed students. The only way we can do that is to get schools or organizations to vouch for you.
