In order to save battery power, your device automatically switches off the WLAN connection when going into ‘sleep mode’. I.e. by default your device and WLAN connection switches-off if not used for 3 minutes, which will stop you from receiving MSN Instant Messages. In order to prevent the device from going into Sleep Mode you can disable “Turn off device if not Used For…” in the Settings > System > Power > Advanced menu, at the cost of significantly increasing the battery consumption.
