Where I work, we start new contact len patients at 4 hours maximum for the first 2 days, then 3 days of 6 hours, and followed by 2 days of 8 hours. This is to gradually get your eyes used to having the lenses in because patients experience exactly what you’re going through if they are worn too long too soon. Your eyes need to build up a little bit of tolerance for the lenses and if you go whole hog right away, your eyes get dry, irritated, red, and itchy. Sound familiar?
