Why do I get a “Scanner Failed to Properly Initialize on First Attempt” message from the sample applications?
There are three reasons you will see this message. The first possible reason is because a finger is on the platen. Having a finger on the platen during scanner initialization, calls to USB_Initialize, can cause “ghosting” or “shadowing”. To prevent this message, remove finger, click OK and re-initialize the scanner. The second possible reason for this message is because the platen is dirty. Having excess dirt on the platen can cause degradation of the final fingerprint image. To prevent this message, clean the platen, click OK and re-initialize the scanner. The third possible reason for this message is because the video setting are out of normal operating range. Each scanner ships from the factory with the video setting optimized for nearly all conditions. If the video are changed, they should be done with great caution to ensure that the fingerprint images are not adversely affected.
