There can be two reasons for this ; (a) Your modem is not connected to the telephone line – ie. the telephone from the modem to the wall point for the phone line is disconnected. Solution: Plug it in. (b) You have Telstra MessageBank enabled and you have a message waiting. The Telstra system produces a different dialtone noise on your telephone line when there is a message waiting for you. The modem does not recognize this different tone as a dial tone and therefore will not dial the internet. Solution: Ring in to Telstra MessageBank and collect/clear your messages and the dial tone will return to normal. The modem will then work properly. 27.
