Why do humans have different blood groups why have we not all got the same blood?
We do have the same blood, generally speaking. It’s composed of iron-based haemoglobin. Some other animals (such as the horseshoe crab) have a copper-based haemoglobin. However, some humans have genetically (hereditarily) developed the ability to produce certain proteins within the blood which are called A or B proteins. People who produce these proteins in the following combinations have the following blood types… 1) Blood type A – only produce A protein 2) Type B – only produces the B protein 3) Type AB – produces BOTH the A and B proteins 4) Type O – doesn’t produce either one of the proteins Then there are the Rh groups, which is another protein… 1) Negative – doesn’t produce the Rh protein 2) Positive – does produce the Rh protein The Rh protein was named for the Rhesus Monkey in which it was first discovered and tested.
