Why do horses always buck and stop infront of jumps?
There are several reasons. The first could be just out of lack of training. If a horse doesn’t know that you want him to jump over a jump, or it is too advanced for him he will not jump it. Also, it could be something on the jump that scared him. Often times there are flowers or other decorations on the jumps that could spook horses. When a horse doesn’t have the proper balance to jump, he won’t. If he’s not on the right lead, or not at a good pace then he will stop because he can’t go over the jump right. This is why you see riders tuck themselves and ride in a two-point seat. This balances them over the horse’s neck so that he can jump correctly without going off balance. Finally, lack of momentum can make a horse not jump. If he isn’t going fast enough then he won’t have the momentum to get over the jump. There are just a couple fast reasons, I could explain more in depth but there are plenty of online resources you can look at about this topic! Hope this helped!
