Reasons are two. 1. Convent schools have a reputation of imparting quality education setting high standards, over a century or more. The staff is imbued with a sense of dedication and spirit of service and so teach well. 2. They emphasize on ‘English’ and do a good job of it. English is the language of the world and in India is a passport for well-paid jobs leaving all those who don’t qualify to break old mosques, public transport buses or glass windows of public buildings – in general, damaging public property not knowing where it came from. Both these trends are supposed by some to be against our national pride (albeit misplaced). But the lowly and disadvantaged want to open up opportunities for their children for a better future. The same urge converted millions, a hundred years back to that religion; the religion in which they were born having as much moisture in the sands of Thar on Summer solstice day, is now attempting to quench their thirst for knowledge and betterment with emp
