Why do gay men seem to get ashed more than gay women?
Well it is because gay men are guys. Simple part of my answer: Most straight men are turned on by lesbians, not threatened. Also, that is not “them.” Men are more likely to react to fear or intimidation with violence than women are. Hence gay bashing. However, I must hasten to say that lesbians ARE beaten, raped, and murdered, usually by men. More complex part: Gay men are a threat to the view of masculinity of many straight men. An insecure straight man is much more likely to be a homophobe than a secure one. There is a dubious court defense called “gay panic disorder” that has been used, largely unsuccessfully, in defense for gay bashers, including murders. It states that the thought of being hit on by a gay man renders such a sense of panic as to cause a temporary insanity. Also, gay men challenge the machismo of the “male image.” This is not accurate.
