Why do gangs adopt religious symbols?

0

Honestly I don’t know. I have my suspicions though. Religious imagery could be chosen as a sign that they feel they are morally justified in their actions. Their gang is acting righteously while other gangs are not, and those that oppose them do not understand their righteous code. I suppose they could be using it for some other statement about their feelings about the religion they’ve chosen symbolism from – possibly calling out that religion. I doubt it though as I think most gang members are actually religious. It’s also possible the religious imagery means nothing and they’ve chosen it just for shock value, but I think people underestimate young people’s ability to think, even if their logic is obviously flawed. Someone has probably written about this.
